U.S.-based oil and natural gas company Anadarko Petroleum will provide about $176 million in the Rovuma basin’s natural gas exploration project in northern Mozambique in the first half of 2019.

Anadarko Petroleum has got the nod from the Mozambican government for its two initial processing units in the Golfinho or Atum project, known as Area 1, adding that the contracts for the selection of contractors for construction of onshore and offshore plants are being finalised.

The final investment in Area 1 will involve sectors such as infrastructure like roads, buildings, aerodrome, among others in the Afungi peninsula, district of Palma, in the province of Cabo Delgado, northern Mozambique.

Anadarko Petroleum said it will decide whether to go ahead with the project in the first half of the year with an adjustment of capital investment forecasts if the project is approved.
