U.S.-based railcar manufacturer CRRC Sifang America, part of China's CSR Corp., Ltd., is nearing to start production at its new $100 million railcar facility in Chicago, Illinois.

The new facility, which will assemble the Chicago Transit Authority’s newest railcars, will create about 170 manufacturing, warehouse and professional jobs.

The newly hired workers at the facility will be training in preparation to build the first 10 prototypes of the new 7000 Series railcars to be delivered later this year.

The facility is set to become fully operational later this year. CRRC Sifang said the first 400 rail car prototypes are expected to be completed in 2019.
