African Airlines' average cargo market share reached 30.6 percent in 2023 year to date, with East Africa at 37 percent and North Africa at 30 percent. Notably, North Africa saw a substantial 20 percennnt year-to-date growth in cargo traffic. Cape Town and Harare were the leading cargo traffic hubs in southern Africa. Despite a $3.5 billion revenue gap due to COVID-19 in 2022, prospects for 2023 are more positive. However, the issue of blocked funds totaling approximately $391.8 million across eleven African Airlines Association (AFRAA) member airlines remains a challenge.

Ghana-based AFRAA and the Flight Safety Foundation will launch the 1st Africa Safety and Operations Summit in May 2024 to address aviation safety and operational excellence in the continent. This assembly underscores the significance of aviation as a key sector for Africa's economic development, with potential for growth and impact on the global aviation landscape.
