The African Development Bank Group, headquartered in Côte d'Ivoire, has greenlit a project to provide 60,000 metric tons of fertilizer to four hundred thousand smallholder farmers in Uganda. This initiative, known as the Fertilizer Financing for Sustainable Agriculture Management project, is supported by the Africa Fertilizer Financing Mechanism, offering $2 million in partial trade credit guarantees and an $877,842 grant to the African Fertilizer and Agribusiness Partnership. Over a three-year period, the project aims to facilitate the sale of fertilizer through two wholesalers, subsequently reaching twenty-five hub agro-dealers and one hundred twenty-five retail agro-dealers who will distribute it to farmers. The project's objective is to enhance crop yields, provide training to a targeted 3.4 percent of farmers, and ultimately bolster agricultural productivity and food security in Uganda.

This endeavor aligns with the bank's Feed Africa Strategy and its commitment to increasing food productivity and security in line with the Sustain Africa initiative, the Bank's Country Strategy Paper for Uganda 2023-2026, and the Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation Programme. This project signifies a vital step toward improving agriculture and food security in Uganda.
