Amazon, a U.S. e-commerce major, has launched its online shopping service in South Africa, entering a market dominated by Naspers’ Takealot.com. The move comes amid a surge in South Africa's online shopping following the pandemic, with Amazon.co.za offering same-day and next-day delivery, along with over three thousand pickup points. Customers will enjoy free delivery on first orders and subsequent orders above 500 rand ($27.07), with access to local and international brands across 20 product categories. Amazon emphasizes its commitment to South African brands and businesses, aiming to provide a platform for them to reach millions of customers.

South Africa's retail sector continues to evolve, attracting international e-commerce retailers like Shein and Temu, responding to robust demand for low-priced apparel.
