Sweden, Stockholm-based Bower, a recycling incentivization mobile app, has been chosen for a Google.org Fellowship and a €1.75 million grant from Google.org Impact Challenge – Tech for Social Good. The Fellowship, starting in January 2024, will involve a team of full-time Google employees collaborating with Bower to develop a machine learning-powered waste collection app rewarding users for accurate recycling. Bower's app, with machine learning and computer vision, aims to enhance waste sorting, provide insights into trash details, and reward users. With Google.org's support, Bower plans to save 500K metric tons of CO2 equivalents yearly and foster sustainable recycling practices.
