Brazilian steelmaker Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN) plans to invest $73 million to maintain operations at its Presidents Vargas Plant in Volta Redonda municipality, Rio de Janeiro state.

Companhia signed new Environmental Adjustment Agreement (TAC), undertaking to invest another $73 million to stop emissions of black slag dust that plagues residents of Volta Redonda.

The plan contemplates all environmental non-compliance with specific actions to correct each one. Altogether, the new TAC sets 35 actions, two of them responsible for solving the problem of the black powder particles released into the atmosphere by the company.

The new deadline for the completion of investment is six years.
