Canadian timber company Kalesnikoff Lumber has started construction on a new engineered wood manufacturing plant in Castlegar with $35 million investment.

The plant, expected to add 50 new jobs, will make cross-laminated timber and glulam beams, which are used in tall wood building construction and other types of mass timber construction.

Kalesnikoff Lumber expects to have the new facility in operation by the end of the year.

The plant, which will build engineered wood products, is expected to bring Kalesnikoff’s headcount up from 150 to 200.
