The Canada-African Development Bank Climate Fund (CACF) has granted an $18 million loan to Moroccan chemical manufacturing company OCP Group for seawater desalination plants under its Green Investment Program. The loan is part of a $36.3 million budget approved by CACF to support private-sector operations advancing climate adaptation in Africa. The second budget will aid the construction of three desalination plants in Morocco, producing 105 million cubic meters of potable water for 1.5 million people in Safi and El Jadida. With a focus on addressing water scarcity challenges, the project aligns with the World Resource Institute's recognition of Morocco among countries at risk of chronic water scarcity.

The concessional loans from CACF signify a joint effort between the African Development Bank and Canada, contributing to eligible climate change projects in Africa. Apart from OCP and the Benin project, CACF has also approved $20.4 million for public sector climate change projects in Senegal and Nigeria. This strategic investment supports Africa's development and climate adaptation, emphasizing the fund's efficiency in delivering impactful benefits.
