Sinoma International Engineering Co. Ltd, unit of cement producer China National Building Material Co. Ltd., has got approval from Tanzania Investment Centre to commence construction of a factory and power station in Tanzania.
Sinoma said that, via its subsidiary Hengya Cement Co. Ltd., it will start building a $1 billion cement factory and 1.2-gigawatt power plant in the northeastern port city of Tanga.
The expansion project is the first stage of a three-year investment plan of $3 billion to develop a construction materials park that will be the largest in East Africa.
Once completed, the factory will produce 7 million tons of cement annually, with 30 percent earmarked for domestic use and 70 percent for export.
