Chinese construction engineering company Sinoma International Engineering has secured a contract to construct a $200 million cement plant for the Sama Sawa group in Southern Muthanna Governorate, Iraq. The plant is expected to have a production capacity of 2 million tonnes per year and will be completed within eighteen to twenty months.

The project is seen as a significant opportunity for the Chinese company to expand its investments in Iraq, with the plant set to be operational in 2025. Iraq, the second-largest oil exporter in the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, currently houses twenty-two cement factories with a combined designed output capacity of nearly 30 million tonnes per year.
