French tyre manufacturer Michelin's joint venture (JV) in Indonesia has launched production of synthetic rubber at a plant in Cilegon.

The $435 million facility, P.T. Synthetic Rubber Indonesia (PTSRI), is rated at 120,000 metric tons of butadiene rubber and solution-styrene-butadiene rubber.

PTSRI is a 55/45 joint venture between Michelin and Indonesian petrochemical company PT Chandra Asri Petrochemical.

Chandra Asri said that the collaboration with Michelin is in line with its plan to add value to its products. The new venture uses Michelin technology to convert butadiene supplied by Chkandra Asri, into synthetic rubber.
