GAIL (India) Ltd, gas processing and distribution company, is nearing to invest 5,000 crore rupees ($710 million) in pipelines project to supply gas and compressed natural gas in the next 5 to 6 years.

The move will consist of industrial development in Bengal by supplying environmentally clean natural gas to fertiliser and power plants, refineries, steel plants and other industries.

The deal, part of Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga Pipeline Project, will have pipelines pass across eight districts in the state including Purulia, Bankura, Burdwan, Nadia, Hooghly, Howrah, East Midnapore and North 24-Parganas.

The project, expected to be completed up to Durgapur within July 2019 and done up to Kolkata within July 2020, will be done in various phases.
