BMW Group, a German manufacturer of luxury vehicles and motorcycles, has announced its plans to manufacture the BMW X3 plug-in hybrid at its Rosslyn plant in South Africa, starting in 2024. With an investment of 4.2 billion rands ($224.9 million), the company aims to enhance the facility's infrastructure and provide specialized training for employees to support the production of hybrid vehicles.

As BMW Group's first foreign facility, the Rosslyn plant has been instrumental in manufacturing various BMW models and has been producing the best-selling BMW X3 since 2018. Additionally, the company emphasizes sustainability, as demonstrated by its strategic investments in the plant's value chain and a partnership with Bio2Watt for biomass-generated electricity. BMW Group also commits to social responsibility, donating over $1.6 million euros to UNICEF for a program focused on STEAM education in South Africa.
