German automotive to infrastructure company Siemens has inaugurated a new additive manufacturing (AM) facility in the UK with 27 million pounds ($33.9 million) investment.

Siemens’ business, a pioneer in the use of selective laser melting technology for the manufacture of high-performance metal parts, also support existing Siemens customers injecting additive manufacturing technology into power generation.

The Materials Solutions business will use AM technology to manufacture combustion components for the Siemens-designed SGT5-9000HL combined cycle gas turbine in this fiscal year.

With this investment, Materials Solutions will enhance Siemens' footprint to 4,700 square feet and enable the growth of the business with a plan to employ up to 25 more employees as part of the expansion.
