Indian airport operator Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL) plans to invest 13,000 crore rupees ($1.8 billion) in the development of Kempegowda International Airport.

The investment will be used to build a new terminal, a second runway, extend the airport’s access roads and internal road infrastructure and build a multimodal transport hub.

Bangalore International Airport said that the second runway is expected to be operational by October, whereas the new terminal will be ready in 2021.

The company added that the extension will create over 25,000 jobs. The second terminal will be able to handle over 25 million passengers per year bolstering Kempegowda’s capacity to 45 million.
