Irish wholesale broadband provider SIRO has revealed plans to invest 60 million euros ($70 million) on the deployment of fibre infrastructure in the city of Cork and some of the surrounding towns in the southern Ireland county.

SIRO said this latest investment will bring its fibre-based gigabit broadband services to additional 75.000 plus homes and businesses in Cork, taking its total reach in the county to 85,000.

Meanwhile, in Cork itself, the firm will work with China’s Huawei to roll out fibre infrastructure to 65,000 premises, while its recently appointed partner TLI Group will be responsible for rolling out fibre to a further 10,000 homes and businesses in the towns of Carrigtwohill, Midleton, Blarney, Tower and Charleville.

SIRO’s gigabit connectivity will complement Cork’s rich technology heritage and put it on a par with international cities like Hong Kong and Tokyo.
