Italy-based Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), a specialized agency of the United Nations, and Cabo Verde have signed a program valued at 35.46 million euros ($38 million) to combat food insecurity by 2027. The goal is to ensure that every citizen in Cabo Verde has access to locally produced, nutritious, and environmentally sustainable food. The increased funding reflects the greater investment required in the agriculture-food system. The program will focus on three key areas: human capital and governance, economic development and transformation, and the promotion of a healthy environment.

This initiative aligns with Cabo Verde's objective of eliminating extreme poverty by 2026 and fostering sustainable agricultural practices for resource-efficient and resilient farming. The program's projects are in line with FAO planning and Cabo Verde's Strategic Plan for Sustainable Development, aiming to enhance the agricultural sector's productivity and resilience, ultimately benefiting the population.
