The African Development Bank (AfDB), a private banking company headquartered in Ivory Coast, is providing $13.15 million in funding to Burundi for phase 1 of the Water Sector and Climate Resilience Building Support Program. This initiative aims to enhance access to secure and sustainable drinking water and sanitation services. The AfDB's funding will be combined with $1.75 million from the government of Burundi and $170,947 from the Global Center on Adaptation.

This financial support will facilitate the creation of eighteen sustainable energy-powered water supply systems, seven hundred fifty latrines and handwashing facilities, subsidize four thousand five hundred water connections, and increase climate awareness among three hundred fifteen thousand people. The project is expected to stimulate further investments in water projects when it launches in January 2024. The funding will also support technical, environmental, and social impact studies for phase 2 of the program.
