Jamaican bauxite into alumina mining and refining company JAMALCO announced that the building of its $189 million bauxite or alumina gas-fired cogeneration power plant is on schedule for wrap up by February 2020.

The cogeneration power plant is being built by U.S. energy infrastructure company New Fortress Energy LLC, managed by an affiliate of Fortress Investment Group.

JAMALCO, a joint venture between Noble Group and Clarendon Alumina Production, said that building of the offshore gas pipeline has been finalized whereas work on the inland segment is still in progress.

The new power plant will supply 90 to 100 megawatts of power into the national energy grid, which is low-cost power and it will also avail JAMALCO with 120,000 pounds of steam, which is around 40 percent of the company’s demand that will help it to become a more efficient refinery.
