Kenya's President has inked an 8.7 billion Kenyan shillings ($59.2 million) agreement with the U.S. foreign aid agency Millenium Challenge Corp (MCC) to procure electric buses for Nairobi Metro Area's traffic alleviation. The electric buses will be deployed on Line 2 of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. The Blended Finance for BRT Project, as outlined by MCC, seeks to stimulate private investment for the acquisition of electric or low-emission buses, enhancing the efficiency of BRT lines in the Nairobi metropolitan area and aligning with Kenya's emissions reduction objectives in urban transportation.

This collaboration between Kenya and MCC represents a substantial investment in sustainable transportation solutions, with a focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the region. Kenya's commitment to addressing urban traffic congestion and environmental concerns underscores the nation's dedication to improving its transportation infrastructure.
