BuuPass, a Kenya-based travel booking platform, has announced the acquisition of QuickBus, a bus ticketing platform operating in Nigeria and South Africa, in a cash and stock deal. Both companies, backed by Founders Factory Africa, have not disclosed the financial terms of the agreement. BuuPass intends to utilize the acquisition to broaden its collaborations with banks and telecommunication companies, enhancing its services, including application programming interface integration. The acquisition grants BuuPass access to QuickBus' partnerships with key players in Nigeria and South Africa, such as Vodacom's VodaPay app in South Africa. As a result, QuickBus' customers in Nigeria and South Africa will transition to BuuPass for their travel bookings across all platforms.

Founded in Kenya in 2017, BuuPass raised $1.3 million in pre-seed funding in February 2023 to modernize Kenya's conventional bus ticketing system. With a focus on expansion, BuuPass now extends its reach to Nigeria and South Africa through this acquisition, significantly increasing its user base. BuuPass claims to have facilitated over 6 million travel ticket sales, surpassing $100 million in revenue since its inception. The platform serves more than 16 million passengers, covering both national and international routes across West, East, and Southern Africa.
