Mexican petrochemicals to aluminum company ALFA's telephone unit Axtel has inked an agreement to divest its fiber mass market business (FTTx) for 4,713 million pesos ($234.9 million).

The mass market business will be divested to Mexican mass media company Grupo Televisa S.A.B. and affiliates. Axtel conveyed 227,802 mass market customers, 4,432-kilometers of FTTx fiber-optic network and other segment assets to Grupo Televisa.

Axtel said that the sale is consistent with its strategy of providing information technology and value-added Telecom services to the enterprises and government organizations.

The net proceeds from the deal will be used to cut debt.
