Monaco-based refined petroleum products company Scorpio Tankers has agreed to acquire 52 hybrid-ready exhaust gas cleaning systems for $79.6 million.
The investment comes as Scorpio Tankers previously announced its program to install exhaust gas cleaning systems across its fleet of 109 owned or financed leased product tankers.
Of these 52 hybrid ready scrubbers, which can be upgraded to closed loop systems at a future date, 42 units will be purchased in 2019 and 10 in 2020.
Scorpio has the option for the purchase of an additional 28 scrubbers in 2020, which will bring the total number to 80.
