Bank of Mozambique revealed that Mozambique witnessed a surge in vehicle imports, reaching $314.2 million within the first three quarters of 2023, equivalent to $1.1 million per day. The escalating trend indicates growth compared to previous years, with 2020 recording imports at $253.8 million, 2021 at $345.5 million, and 2022 at $369.3 million. Motor vehicles constituted over 20 percent of Mozambique's total imports, amounting to $1,522.6 million in consumer goods during the first nine months of 2023. The comprehensive import figure, covering various goods, stood at $6,570 million for the same period.

The data reflects the significant impact of vehicle imports on Mozambique's overall import landscape, with a notable increase in consumer goods. The consistent rise in car imports underscores a growing trend, contributing substantially to the country's trade dynamics throughout 2023.
