Petmin USA, the unit of South African mining company Petmin Ltd., plans to construct pig iron plant in Ashtabula, Ohio with $474 million pump in.

Once completed, the new facility will lead to several hundred construction jobs as well as more than 100 permanent skilled jobs.

The facility will produce an estimated 425,000 tons of pig iron annually to be shipped to the customers. As raw material and infrastructure deals are in the process of being concluded, the plant could be up running and producing in 2021.

If the Environmental Protection Agency grants the necessary permits, designing of the plant could be complete in June and construction could begin as soon as July.
