Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA), headquartered in South Africa, a key player in the beverage industry, has partnered with Plastic Packaging to inaugurate a $1.2 million polyethylene terephthalate (PET) flaking plant in Okahandja, Namibia. This initiative doubles the country’s PET recycling capacity, signaling a significant step towards addressing plastic waste challenges. Namibia Polymer Recyclers, a subsidiary of Plastic Packaging, will see its recycling capacity soar to 500 tonnes per month. CCBA’s commitment to fostering a circular economy for packaging is evident through this venture.

The collaboration underscores the importance of collective efforts in establishing a circular economy, with environmental and economic benefits including job creation and support for informal waste collection. The plant’s operations involve converting PET beverage bottles into flakes for international markets, contributing to environmental conservation by reducing reliance on virgin PET and landfill diversion. CCBA continues to invest in infrastructure to bolster recycled PET capacity across its operational regions, aligning with its mission to lead the industry towards sustainable production practices.
