Green Earth Power (GEP), a Thai solar power plants operator, is committing $297 million investments in the solar project in Minbu Township, Magwe Region.

Ministry of Electricity and Energy signed a power purchase agreement with GEP (Myanmar), Green Earth Power's entity established to pursue the project as the project company, to purchase electricity at $0.094 per unit.

The construction work is being carried out at the site of the plant, will be built in four phases, starting with 40 megawatts (MW) in the first phase. If approved, construction of the plant will commence in 2020.

The solar power plant, with 170MW, will start producing electricity in time for summer next year. Electricity generated from the plant will be linked to 230 kilovolts transmission lines and supply power to the national grid.
