Turkish commercial and defense vehicles manufacturer BMC, a subsidiary of Savings Deposit Insurance Fund of Turkey, plans to start the construction of its strategic base in Karasu, in the northwestern province of Sakarya.

The 1 billion Turkish lira ($180 million) Karasu facility, which will cover an area of 2,500 acres, is expected to create 1,150 direct and 4,600 indirect jobs.

BMC is expected to infuse $685 million at the plant by 2023 and hire approximately 10,000 workers in total, as well as 3,000 white-collar engineers.

The plant will be one of the biggest defense industry commitments in recent years.
