Uganda is set to pay $30 million in hosting fees to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027, which it will jointly host with Kenya and Tanzania under the East Africa joint Pamoja Bid. This marks the first time the region will host this prestigious football tournament since its inception in 1957. Each of the participating countries is required to pay US$30 million to CAF. To support the event, Uganda plans to construct two stadiums and complete the renovation and upgrading of Mandela National Stadium. Hosting AFCON presents an opportunity for infrastructure development and economic benefits through tourism and trade.

Members of Parliament have emphasized the importance of enhancing sports facilities and general infrastructure for the successful hosting of AFCON 2027. They have called for regional balance in infrastructure development, inclusivity, and unity. The President of the Federation of Uganda Football Association emphasized the need for efficient project management in stadium construction to ensure timely completion and avoid potential challenges. This hosting opportunity also presents a chance to market Uganda and unite its citizens through the universal sport of football.
