Uganda's coffee exports achieved a historic milestone in the 2022/2023 coffee year, generating an impressive $940.3 million in revenues, marking a 7 percent increase compared to the previous year. This growth is attributed to a surge in export volumes, with the country exporting 6.14 million 60 kilograms bags of coffee, exceeding the previous year's 5.86 million bags. Robusta coffee, in particular, contributed significantly to this success, driven by a bountiful harvest in the southwestern region and favorable global prices.

Italy, Germany, India, Sudan, and Morocco were the primary destinations for Uganda's coffee exports, with additional shipments to Tunisia, Somalia, Egypt, Libya, and Kenya. This achievement is in line with ongoing discussions among African coffee-producing countries to halt the export of raw coffee beans to increase farmer income and reduce exploitation by Western nations. In East Africa, Ethiopia and Rwanda also saw significant increases in coffee export revenues, while Kenya faced a decline in earnings. Globally, the coffee market is forecasted to experience growth in production and exports, led by Brazil and Vietnam, with increased consumption in the European Union, the U.S., and Brazil.
