Uganda's Nile Breweries Ltd (NBL), a beer manufacturer and subsidiary of ABInBev, has inaugurated a 4 billion Ugandan shillings ($1.06 million) barley cleaning and drying plant in Cheminy, Kween district, to enhance barley production quality and sustainability in the region. NBL, established in 1951, has been part of the ABInBev family since its merger with SABMiller plc in 2016. The state-of-the-art facility offers secure storage for barley, benefitting over five thousand local farmers in Kween, Kapchorwa, and Bukwo districts, significantly reducing post-harvest losses.

Nile Breweries, known for brands like Nile Special and Eagle Lager, emphasizes its commitment to supporting local farmers, purchasing over eight thousand metric tons of barley annually and now providing a state-of-the-art drying and cleaning plant. This initiative aligns with their financial literacy program, empowering farmers with essential financial skills for more profitable and sustainable farming practices. Nile Breweries continues to play a pivotal role in Uganda's brewing industry and agricultural development, striving for quality and sustainability.
