UK-based bus manufacturer Alexander Dennis has secured an initial deal worth an estimated 100 million euros ($114.8 million) to build a fleet of eco-friendly double-decker buses for Berlin.

Alexander Dennis said that its state-of-the-art Enviro500 vehicles offer benefits for German transportation company  Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe, its drivers and its passengers.

This new partnership with BVG is a significant step forward in the company's European expansion strategy.

The 80-seater Enviro500 vehicles will be tailored to the requirements of operation in Berlin, and the first are due to arrive in the city in 2020.
