GKN Aerospace, the UK unit of automotive and aerospace components company GKN Limited, plans to expand its new digital technologies in aerospace manufacturing with 32 million pounds ($40.8 million) investment.

With partnership from the University of Sheffield, GKN Aerospace plans to build a new global technology centre to accelerate the adoption of digital technologies in the aerospace manufacturing.

GKN Aerospace said that it funded the expansion via its $21 million commitment and $19.1 million from the UK government and the facility will open in 2020 in Bristol.

The facility will host 300 highly skilled engineers and will include collaborative space for research and development and focus on additive manufacturing, advanced composites, assembly and industry 4 processes to enable the high rate production of aircraft structures.
