Kenyan consumer goods company Unilever Kenya, a part of Unilever East & West Africa, is aiming to procure approximately 48 million euros ($50.6 million) worth of raw materials locally by 2025. This local sourcing strategy aligns with Kenya's 2030 sustainable development agenda and is a response to global supply chain challenges brought on by external factors like the Covid-19 crisis and the Russia-Ukraine war. Unilever Kenya has already exceeded its 2023 target by sourcing 49 percent of its raw materials locally, amounting to $29.5 million, moving closer to its 2024 goal of achieving 55 percent local sourcing.

The company is actively partnering with local entities, including the Kenya Association of Manufacturers, to create jobs, stimulate the local economy, and enhance community impact. Unilever is also investing $6.8 million in supplier diversity and inclusiveness initiatives, collaborating with organizations such as the SME Support Centre to provide entrepreneurship training, financial literacy, e-commerce support, and business mentorship.
