U.S.-based freight railroad network company BNSF Railway Co. (BNSF), part of transport to energy company Berkshire Hathaway, will spend about $140 million in its maintenance projects in Nebraska this year.

The projects will include replacing and upgrading the main components for the tracks on which BNSF trains operate including rail, rail ties and ballast.

The renovation plan in Nebraska includes about 1,290 miles of track surfacing and undercutting work as well as the replacement of about 55 miles of rail and about 130,000 ties.

BNSF said that its investment is part of a $3.57 billion capital expenditure plan announced earlier this month, which includes replacing and maintaining core network and related assets, expansion and efficiency projects and freight cars and other equipment acquisitions.
