U.S.-based agriculture technology startup BrightFarms Inc. is searching for sites in Greene County and surrounding areas to construct a greenhouse with $21 million investment.

BrightFarms noted it will start building the greenhouse by the end of this year and open in the second or third quarter of 2020.

The greenhouse, expected to employ 55 people, will allow the company to supply supermarkets in the Albany region and Hudson Valley with its produces.

The company said the expansion is part of its strategy to build hydroponic greenhouses outside large metropolitan areas, where land is relatively affordable.
