Two Kenyan organizations stand as the sole African beneficiaries in Google.org's Accelerator: Generative AI Cohort, gaining access to over $20 million in funding for their projects. Google.org, headquartered in the U.S., selected Jacaranda Health and EIDU to participate in this initiative aimed at supporting nonprofits developing high-impact generative AI applications. Jacaranda Health utilizes Natural Language Processing to expand digital health services for underserved mothers, while EIDU applies generative artificial intelligence (AI) for personalized tutoring services in low- and middle-income countries. The six-month program provides technical training, workshops, mentoring, and pro bono assistance, alongside the $20 million funding allocation from Google.org.

The selected nonprofits, spanning twenty-one organizations globally, will focus on areas like climate, economic opportunities, health, education, and crisis response. Google.org's initiative responds to a survey revealing nonprofits' recognition of generative AI's potential, yet highlighting barriers such as lack of tools, awareness, training, and funding. This diverse cohort includes entities from the U.S., UK, France, Germany, and Kenya, aiming to leverage generative AI for impactful social change.
