U.S. semiconductor manufacturing company Intel Corp. plans to invest up to 7 billion euros ($8 billion) in a manufacturing facility in its base in County Kildare, Ireland.

The company submitted an application for a 110,000 square meter development which it aims to establish on a proposed 90,000 square meter facility, which was granted planning permission in late 2017.

The project also includes eight huge water tanks, a 48-meter tower, and a support building with generators and wastewater treatment facilities. There will be up to 3,000 construction roles at the peak of construction and about 800 full-time positions upon finalization.

The proposed scheme, which would see the firm add up to 1,600 staff, will enable the Intel campus to accommodate manufacturing advances to allow for increased productivity.
