U.S.-based natural gas and electric energy distributor Northern Indiana Public Service Co., (NIPSCO) will invest about $660 million to upgrade its electric and gas infrastructure across northern Indiana this year.

NIPSCO said that the reinvestment is part of its overall ongoing modernization plan to ensure long-term safety and reliability for customers.

With the infusion, the company is planning for the future by upgrading and replacing critical parts of its infrastructure to ensure a modern system for its growing communities.

NIPSCO also noted that among the projects planned in 2019 include replacement and upgrading of key components of the system and the projects in La Porte County will focus on natural gas pipeline inspections and maintenance.
