U.S.-based Norton Children's Hospital has inaugurated a new $12 million medical and surgical center in Louisville, Kentucky.

The new 24-bed medical and surgical center is part of the company’s wider $78 million refurbishment project. The new medical and surgical unit on the sixth floor was the second stage of the project.

The new center will care for children with respiratory, gastrointestinal and neurological diseases as well as help children recover from surgery.

Inaugurating the second phase provides space on the fourth floor to start working on the new Jennifer Lawrence cardiac intensive care unit which expected to be wrapped up by 2019. The full $78 million refurbishment project is scheduled to be finalized in 2022.
