U.S.-based healthcare company Premier Health and peer Encompass Health Corp broke ground on The Rehabilitation Institute of Ohio, a joint venture between the two health networks.

The $27 million facility will be located across from Miami Valley Hospital, which Premier also owns, at the intersection of South Main and Apple streets near the University of Dayton. The project also brings a new health facility to the Dayton region, as well as new jobs and work for area contractors and suppliers.

The hospital will provide inpatient rehabilitation services and higher medical management for patients recovering from a stroke and other neurological disorders, hip fractures, brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation and complex orthopaedic conditions.

The hospital will include 60 private patient rooms, a therapy gym, an in-house pharmacy, courtyard, four-chair dialysis suite, three bariatric rooms, an isolation room, dining room and dayroom areas. It is expected to begin serving patients in spring 2020.
