New York-based MongoDB Inc., a software company, is paying $39 million to acquire Realm, an open-source database geared for mobile applications.

The transaction will create the modern standard for mobile application development and data synchronization for a new generation of connected applications and services.

With Realm, Mongo gets a strong mobile solution, adding to its MongoDB Mobile, and it also gets the technology, user base and engineering talent that Realm brings to the table.

The deal is expected to close in June or July. Additionally, Realm had just secured $40 million in financing before the proposed deal happened.
