U.S. steel fabrication company Southland Steel Fabricators Inc. is planning to extend its operations to a second facility in Amite, Louisiana with $18 million pump in.

Southland said that the project will more than double its square footage to over 650,000, with 110 acres between the two locations.

The company expects to infuse in additional equipment to extend its steel fabrication and coating services and it will add 40 jobs in 2020 and expand to 70 new jobs by 2023.

Southland Steel, which will begin operations at the site later this year using existing staff, will also retain about 176 workers at its St. Helena Parish headquarters.
