Responding to pressing climate challenges in northern Kenya, USAID has announced a targeted $6 million initiative aimed at enhancing climate resilience among small businesses and financial institutions. This program, part of a broader $38 million effort, seeks to address recurring droughts and floods in arid and semi-arid regions. Solargen, an energy, Water and Irrigation solution and service provider, stands as a key beneficiary, utilizing USAID’s support to expand services in underserved areas of Garissa and Wajir counties. Working alongside local non-governmental organizations, including those involved in the USAID Kuza program, the initiative aims to bridge gaps in financial services and provide essential resources such as water provision and technical assistance to communities.

This investment not only bolsters productivity but also fosters sustainable economic growth, particularly by empowering small and medium enterprises. Innovative tools like a digital tracking system ensure alignment with broader climate resilience goals. As USAID continues its commitment to combat climate change, stakeholders anticipate further investments in climate finance and environmental conservation, signaling a significant step towards building climate resilience in Kenya’s vulnerable regions.
