Indian wireless carrier Bharti Airtel Ltd. intends to secure about $1 billion in a stock market offering of its Africa unit.

Bharti Airtel is seeking an equity valuation for its unit of about $5 billion in the initial public offering (IPO) that could be one of the biggest in London this year.

The company's subsidiary, Airtel Africa, is planning to start trading in June this year.

Last year, Airtel Africa secured $1.25 billion in listing last year, giving it an equity value of about $4.4 billion.
