Samsung Austin Semiconductor, a U.S.-based chip maker unit of peer Samsung Semiconductor, announced plans to commit $291 million in Austin and Central Texas.

Samsung expects to retain 500 area jobs, at its facility that employs 2,952.

Austin council’s designated enterprise zone project will allow Samsung to make refunds on state sales and use tax.

Samsung anticipates spending $108 million on tools and equipment, and $183 million toward facility renovations.
