Barry Callebaut, a Swiss cocoa and chocolate products maker, revealed that the company will invest 50 million euro ($56.2 million) to build a chocolate factory in Novi Sad, Serbia.

Barry Callebaut noted that the new plant will expand its footprint in the region and supply current and new customers with a wide range of chocolate, compound and filling products.

The new production facility, expected to create 100 jobs, will have an initial production capacity of over 50,000 tonnes per year when it becomes operational in 2021.

The factory will serve as a regional hub from which Barry Callebaut can address the rapidly growing chocolate markets of Southeastern Europe. Moreso, the company also aims to set up a research and development centre in Serbia.
